"Do It In A Datsun."
The Fairest Of Them All.
The Datsun Fairlady Z's production first started on October 1969 and was made with seperate models for the Japanese and U.S market. The Japanese Z featured a 2.0L SOHC L20A straight-six engine producing 130 horsepower while the U.S Z called the 240z featured a 2.4L L24 inline-6 with twin Hitachi SU-type carburetors that produced 151 horsepower.
The Datsun 280z was the better version of the 240z and was only available to the North American market, the rest of the world got the 260z. Not to be confused with the second generation of the car, the 280zx, the 280z came with a larger engine now being 2.8L. The SU carburetators were now replcaed with the new Bosch fuel injection and this resulted in a power increase to 170 horsepower.
After almost 10 years the second generation of the Datsun Z car came into production, and their were a lot of changes. It grew off of the 280z styling from the older generation but also came with new trends like the "T-top" roof and was made more luxurious to meet customer demands. The new generation also came with a turbocharged version that came out of factory with 180 horsepower and 203 lb⋅ft of torque. The 280zx became a known car in the community and sold 87,000 units in it's first year.
The new Z started production in 1984, two years before the name change of Datsun to Nissan. They did a complete new design of the Z and ditched the old look for a new 80's retro look. This being the first model of the two 300zx's. The new Z had featured Nissan's new line of 3.0 liter V6's named the VG series. You could get these engines as the naturally aspirated VG30E and the turbocharged VG30ET, the naturally aspirated making 160 horsepower and the turbocharged version making 200 horsepower. Although, the U.S turbocharged versions of the 300zx's had 228 horsepower.
This new 300zx had better handling, accerleration and more infinement then the previous generation and was also a massive seller to the public.
Upon the release of the second model of the Nissan 300zx in 1990, the car was an automatic seller. In it's first year of prodcution it won "Motor Trend's "Import Car Of The Year" aswell as "One of The Top Ten Performing Cars." The only thing left unchanged from the last model was the dual overhead camshafts and variable vavle timing. The naturally aspirated version produced 222 horsepower and 198 lb⋅ft of torque, whilst the turbocharged version that came with twin Garrett turbochargers made 300 horsepower and 283 lb⋅ft of torque. The car also came with four-wheel steering, meaning all wheels can steer, making it a much better handling car compared to other vehicles with only two-wheeled steering. The car had a 0-60 time of 5.0-6.0 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph.
After a little over 10 years from the last Nissan Z, the Nissan 300zx, the car has returned in 2002 as the 350z, or the Z33. The car has now been completely redesigned to fit the early 2000's sports cars look. Its now been rounded out around the edges but has still kept it's hatchback look. upon release it came with 287 horsepower and 274 lb⋅ft of torque, less power then the previous generations twin-turbo option. Although in 2007, Nissan offered a NISMO version of the 350z that produced 206 horsepower and 268 lb⋅ft of torque, more then the last generation. That same year, they also released the NISMO Type 380RS which produced a great 350 horsepower and 300 lb⋅ft of torque.
